The benefits of Core Stability Exercise include:

  • Strengthening your core
  • Tone your abdominals
  • Prevent sports injuries
  • Improve posture
  • Improve back pain

Core stability refers to the ability of certain specialised muscles to prevent uncontrolled and potentially damaging movement of the lower back and trunk.

Core Stability Training. From the low back all the way up to the neck, there are hundreds of tiny muscles in the spine that attach from vertebrae to vertebrae. Larger muscles pull from these foundation muscles. Subluxation or injury is more likely to occur if the foundation or your spine is weak. When not in regular use, muscles of the core and spine tend to atrophy. People who sit at a desk or are inactive most of the day are almost certain to have a weak core and spine as a component of their condition. Clients that have a strong core and muscles around the spine tend to have fewer injuries, and when they do, they heal and bounce back quicker.

Information on core stability

Core Stability Exercises
  • Physiotherapists look at core stability in an individual with seemingly unrelated problems – a hamstring strain, for example, wherein an inability to properly control spinal movement can contribute to re-injury or delayed recovery.
  • Physiotherapists are skilled in the teaching of core stability exercises, and today they are used as an important component of rehabilitation from back pain and injury.
  • When core muscles are well conditioned, they contribute to good erect posture and a strong and safe movement.

It’s important to have adequate core stability, as the powerful muscles attaching to the spine initiate practically all sporting movements and most everyday ones. These movements are more efficient if these power-generating muscles have a stable base from which to work. Forces transferred up to the legs or arms (e.g. from running or hitting a tennis ball) are also absorbed and transferred to the trunk. If these aren't controlled, they can injure your back.
